International Internship
Communication Intern at the Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento, Spring 2019
The Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento is a four star hotel located in Sant'Agnello overlooking the Mediterranean. Being one of the best locations to watch the sunset, the Hotel Mediterraneo is known for its many activities, great accommodations and friendly staff.
My supervisors are:
Pietro Monti, Director of Sales and Marketing Francesco Monti, Food and Beverage Manager Alessia Fiorentino, Event Coordinator |
The staff structure at the Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento is smaller than some of the other hotels in the area, but each and everyone of them is friendly and helpful. Throughout my internship I met many new faces and was greeted with a smile.

Project: Online Communication
The creation of the Perfect Wedding in Sorrento Instagram page. Keeping the Perfect Wedding in Sorrento and Hotel Mediterraneo Instagram and Facebook pages updated and increasing the follower on the sites to reach a larger audience. Pre-planning posts to use, researching hashtags to use that will increase reach and planning the perfect time to get the most post play.
Project: Company Research
Combing through the social media pages, website, and booking sites, such as Tripadvisor, to better understand the expectations of the hotel from the eyes of their customers. Reading reviews, comments on posts, direct messages sent as well as the responses given, helped to develop a firm grasp on what was expected of me to get the message across to when it was my turn to take over the social media and answer questions online. Reading the notes left from past interns to gage what was going on prior to my arrival and help the intern transition to move smoothly.
Project: Preparing Graphic Items
Day-to-Day Digital Projects: During my internship at the Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento, I was tasked many times with creating graphic pieces that would be displayed as wedding menus, ways to follow us on social media, table settings and promotional videos. For many of these documents I made, I had to provide both the information in Italian and in English. Some times my coworkers provided the Italian for me and other times I translated to the best of my abilities before having them check. The promotional video was defiantly the most interesting thing that I worked on since it was very last minute and time constrained. I created three different versions of the video to use for different venues.

Project: Events
|
Idee Sposi 2019: Though I was unable to attend the actual event, I worked with behind the scenes to prepare for the event. I worked to put together a video from footage taken at one of the weddings. The video was then used at the table in the background to give you the feel for what your wedding might look like. I also made a table listings as a mock up for the booth. This event was very interesting to be part of, with so many different local businesses in the wedding industry. I was able to watch them all set up and take many pictures of the different displays. I helped to promote the event on the Perfect Wedding in Sorrento Instagram story.
|
Hotel Opening: During the Hotel Opening I spent my time helping in back to prepare for a few of the other upcoming events. The preparation prior to the opening was very intense and involved redoing menus and replacing them inside the hard shells, doing a food tasting of the menu, preparing for upcoming wedding tastings and running stacks of paper around to different staff members and of course posting on social media to update guests about out opening.

Wedding at Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento: In preparation for the wedding ceremony, I was able to work hands on with Alessia. The menus and wedding table numbers were developed from a design that I created for a wedding tasting. I was put in charge of setting the tables with the place cards for each attendee, the menus, centerpieces surrounded by flower petals and the candles that were placed around the room. When the guests arrived at the restaurant upstairs in the hotel, I greeted them at the elevators and invited them in for the aperitif that took place prior to dinner.
